Upgrade RHEL5 kernel to 2.6.30.3
Hi all,
I am a new student of RHEL5. I have'nt background of Open Source O/S. That is my first time. I have a little bit idea of windows envoirnment that how it is updated. But don't know about linux.... Current version RHEL5 2.6.18-el5 is running.....
Q: How i can update the kernal? i download the linux kernal linux-2.6.30.3
which is linux-2.6.30.3.tar.bz2. file size approx 56 MB.
I extract it in a new folder. Now which steps i follow to update it...
Kindly advise any valueable

Current version RHEL5 2.6.18-el5 is running in my laptop. Someone give me idea that download rpm for latest kernal. But i did'nt find.

If you want a Red Hat based distro with a modern kernel, I recommend installing Fedora 11 instead. If you want to practice compiling a kernel, you can do it on Fedora too.
There should be some documentation that came along with the kernel source. I recommend reading it first.Paul
