Hello, and welcome to Linux Forums!

To determine what is needed to get your wireless to work, more detailed information is required. There is a stickied post in the Wireless Internet section that explains the info needed, and how to get it. Please read it, and post the info here.

Yes, thank you!
Broadcom wireless cards need firmware installed before they will work properly. To determine which version you need, run this command and post the output.
I also am not exactly sure which driver this is using. Please post the output of this command.Code:dmesg | grep firmware
Code:lsmod

ok - I think I'm close but when I go to install the frimware per the instructions on the page I get a message saying that I don't have permission

This wireless is using the b43legacy driver.
I need to know the exact message that you get when you run the firmware command. It is important because it will determine which firmware you install.Paul

um - not sure what you mean about the command. I downloaded the file and when I goto extract it to the firmware file using the extractor, not the command lines I get this message
should I use the command prompt to enter commands to make it happen instead? You don't have the right permissions to extract archives in the folder "file:///lib/firmware"
Please forgive my use of windows terminology - I've been using PC's for as long as I can remember
here are the instructions that the site gave
I didn't make it to the last three comands - is that the error message you are looking for?Fedora 10 and 11 use the following commands:
*
su -
*
yum install b43-fwcutter wget
o when you are asked "Is this ok [y/N]:" answer "Y" (and press "Enter)
o Now you have installed b43-fwcutter tool for extracting firmware from windows driver and download tool called wget. Now you need to download windows driver.
*
wget***/broadcom-wl-4.80.53.0.tar.bz2
o Now decompress, extract and copy firmware to /lib/firmware directory.
*
tar xjf broadcom-wl-4.80.53.0.tar.bz2
*
cd broadcom-wl-4.80.53.0/kmod"
*
b43-fwcutter -w /lib/firmware/ wl_apsta.o

I want the message you got with this command:
You may not need to go through the elaborate process that is described in the b43 web page. There is a Fedora package available with some basic firmware. If that won't work, I have a package that you can download and install that may work. I first need to know what firmware it is looking for.Code:dmesg | grep firmware
