grub 0.97 not reading menu.lst/grub.conf + hd0 not found as available devices

    Hi,

I am wondering if anyone had this issue before where grub is installed on a 1gb USB Drive with an ext2 partition and does not boot the kernel installed on another ext2 partition. It boots to command prompt which means grub stage2 was loaded however no menu.lst/grub.conf has not been found. at grub command prompt, when doing root ( and tab key, we only have fd0 fd1 hd1. Anyone? Any suggestions? thanks in advance for any assistance provided.

    Bin.

It would be useful if you would post your partition information by running 'fdisk -l' command as root. How many drives do you have, internal, external USB? Which is set to boot first? Which drives were attached when you installed? Where is the "other" kernel you refer to, on another drive?
