Now, i need to install a linux distro that can read ntfs and allows the partition to be shared. Thats it. No more required functions. Is there any linux that supports this...???? Pretty much any distro will allow you to do this. The pertinent program is ntfs-3G.

There's lots of lightweight distros out there. For newer users I like Antix.

I use AntiX 8.2 on pretty much the same specs and it is my favorite when needing a low resource operating system.

ntfs-3g comes installed by default in AntiX Also.

Be sure to defrag and compress Windows first before shrinking Windows Partition for any Linux install. The installer in AntiX comes with Gparted which can be used to shrink Windows, Create a Primary Ext3 Root "/" partition for Linux and a Swap Partition also. I would recommend at the minimum of 512 mb for swap, With the size of your hardrive you could use even 1 gig for swap. For root without a seperate /home partition 20 gig should be fine. You can go bigger if you prefer to. Run it live first to make sure everything works first before you install. Here below is a tutorial of mine showing me installing AntiX 8.2 onto a external SDHC Flash Drive on a EEEPC with screenshots. Don't follow my tutorial literally but certain sections will at least show you what to expect. By the way. I just don't run AntiX just in the EEEPC. All my Laptops run it.

Hi, Dont know much but I think Victor Linux also work for you..

Actually I was using my Laptop with Celeron(1.8 Ghz) machine and 256 MB of ram with many versions of Ubandu and Fedora(upto Fedora 8 )..My experience is that each and every versions work OK in my Laptop and of course the response(windows appear after a click) time will be a little less.

    Cheers,
    Ajith
