Vista and other windows OS's will overwrite your master boot record without notifying you during an installation. This seems to be what happened here. You didn't indicate how you were booting before the re-isntall, Grub? vista bootloader? What do you want to use as a bootloader now?

Red Hat 9 is pretty old and I'm not familiar with it. You will either need to re-install Grub or include Red Hat in the vista bootloader. Which would you prefer?

You should be able to reinstall grub and boot with that using Super Grub Disk

Did you re-install Red Hat 9 with its installation CD? What steps did you take to re-install Grub?
