hi .. everybody
I am using rhel5 and having a problem on using internet through TP-Link ADSL modem. I can use internet through the LAN connection of the modem but from the USB cable i couldn't figure it out how to configure for USB link
Please somebody help me out of this.

I'm not familiar with this device. Are you saying that it has both ethernet and usb connections? But while the ethernet connection works, you are having problems getting Linux to work with the USB connection?
Sometimes, real fast is almost as good as real time.

Any particular reason why? I think if you are using it as a USB modem, you will have to use the point-to-point ethernet protocol (PPP) such as I have to when I use my USB broadband modem. There is also the question as to whether or not your distribution supports this device as a modem.
Sometimes, real fast is almost as good as real time.

If i could use usb modem for internet access then i could be able to practice proxy and firewall stuffs ... need to practice these things ..

There's no reason why you cannot do that using an ethernet connection to the modem. You can connect the modem to an ethernet switch and use your computer as a router/firewall. Or you can get a second ethernet port for your computer and do it that way - 1 connected to the modem and 1 to the network switch. I suspect you'll find better support for a USB ethernet port than for the modem itself.
Sometimes, real fast is almost as good as real time.
