Xserver not starting due to multiple video drivers installed
hi i have fedora 11. I had installed the nvidia driver using livna i.e. yum install akmod-nvidia.
But i found that a newer version of the nvidia driver was available at their site.
And so i downloaded that version and installed it. Now when i rebooted the pc in runlevel 5 it was not starting with a blank cursor blinking.
Then i reinstalled the same driver again by booting in runlevel 3 but again xserver fails. Then i removed the akmod package. But still no success.
I am now completely messed up.
Tell me some solution .
How can i remove all the drivers of nvidia and then install only one.
Help me plz...
Thanx in advance

You don't have to remove the drivers. Boot to runlevel 3 and reconfigure the x server by running as root:
system-config-display

well now i just installed the previous version of nvidia driver (i.e. the 185.18.14 whereas the latest version is 185.18.31 on the nvidia site). So it removed/uninstalled all the other drivers installed and installed that driver. Now xserver is working. So now i think if i install the latest driver then it will remove this version and install itself. So i hope it would be fine.
But now somebody plz tell me why there's so much of confusion/fuss regarding nvidia drivers. Why fedora doesn't provide these drivers on its own just Sabayon does?? I think this is a big problem here because if we switch on all these desktop effects in kde sometimes it hangs. While this is no problem in windows. Nvidia just works fine in windows whereas in linux it crashes sometimes. This is definitely due to some incompatibility of driver.

The ati and nvidia drivers are not open source and require that you accept the vendor's licencing terms. This means that most distros won't include them for legal reasons.
