    Hi karthik_b_s
Forget about that boot time speed. 2 seconds is too little to even uncompress the kernel of a linux desktop. Mac boasts that their OS can boot within 10 seconds though i really doubt that as it also depends with your system hardware. You shud either increase your apllication time.
If i may ask, why that very little time boot up time. You can simply have a script that starts your application during the bootup process.

Ohh to answer your question on the fastest Linux distro. The fastest Linux is the one you have compiled with the neccesary application that you want. The lesser applications installed the better the speed and also disable hardware detection of devices not required. I onced install DSL on RAM drive and it booted in 5 seconds.

ArchLinux, gentoo or DSL should be your variant.

But Istill insists that you should compile your own linux to get the best bootup time if speed is of essence.

Actually, it is possible to achieve a two second boot time, but not with regular distros. But Moblin is working on this with embedded linux, and Montavista claims a 1 second boot in embedded devices.

There are some motherboards with embedded linux that will boot up in about 5 seconds to firefox as well.
