    hardware failure logs

    hello everyone
i want to know are there any logs that tells about a hardware failure like disk failure.
i have seen /var/log/messages but they didnt have had any such messages of hardware failure.
also /var/log/dmesg contains messages at the boot time!
so any log file that can give info about hardware failure, or i have to get it myself in log files?

i have found a solution but still have some difficulty with it ,command dmesg shows kernel ring buffer but /var/log/dmesg shows different output.
is there any way to get dmesg logs in some file after regular interval of time.
like i get dmesg logs in /var/log/tmp after every 5 minutes
    thanks for your consideration
