Change the hostname of my feodra10 box.

I've installed my Fedora 10 Linux with the default hostname as "localhost.localdomain" (exclude quotes).

What are the implications if I change it to something else? Consider the following two scenarios.

    1) without the existence of a DNS server in the network
    2) with the existence of a DNS server in the network

Correct me if I am wrong. I think changing the hostname has only local significance and is used for management purposes. Right? How about its relation to DNS server?

    Thanks

This sounds suspiciously like a homework question, which is against forum rules.

I'm really sorry that my question sounds coincidentally like a homework, but it is no more than just a question in my mind. It bewilders me and I really want to know.

And may I ask why does this question sound like a homework? Surely I did not learn this when I was in the college since my lecturer did not ask me such a question.

    Hi reed9,

I've read the link you provided. However, it only explained how to provisionally or temporarily change the hostname. But it does not tell the implications of changing the hostname.

Best learning is to try it and see.
