io apic resources could not be allocated
Hi,
I`ve googled this problem and all the hits I see, I either don`t understand or I don`t see a solution. Perhaps someone can help me.
I am a newbie but really enjoy using Ubuntu on a Dell Latitude laptop. So, for a friend who was running Windows Me on an IBM Aptiva, 128K memory, 6GB HD, AMD 6K 2-333 machine, I tried to install Ubuntu 9.04. The Windows programme was way to slow, so I thought Ubuntu might improve his situation.
Needless to say, Ubuntu would not load. So I looked around the Linux sites and downloaded Fedora 11. Burned it to a CD and tried to install it on the Aptiva machine mentioned above. As soon as the CD boots, I get `io apic resources could not be allocated` on the screen, and everything comes to a halt. Also, I would see the same message when I tried to load Ubuntu, but it would quickly disappear, and freeze further in the loading process.
After looking around the forums, the nearest solution I came to is to disable the io apic. When I look into the bios when the computer boots, there is no mention of apic. So I`m at a loss as to what to do. Any help would be appreciated. Did I already mention that I`m a newbie?
Robert
