Welcome to the wonderful world of Linux. Your life is about to become much more interesting. Right, what can we do.

You may find this kind of config guide to be quite helpful.

That tells you how to install the rpmfusion repository, and that will allow you to get binary nvidia and ati drivers (if you have one of those chipsets) for your laptop.

I don't use real player in Linux. I use VLC which is available in the rpmfusion repository, along many other media players. If you use your package manager and search for mp3 players or avi players, you'll see just how much choice you've got. Try them, you can remove them through your package manager too if you don't like them.

Install 'yumex' if you want a package manager that'll give you a detailed list of packages, and you'll be able to search better.

Cant say what other packages you'll need, it depends on what you want to do. If there's specific tasks you want to perform, then feel free to ask for recommendations.

    Avidemux - Main Page

I assume Fedora has it in their repos, but I don't really know. It's one of the most popular video editing apps for linux.
