    Cannot Log In

I reset my root password by adding init=/bin/tcsh to my grub boot line. I had to try about a million different things to get it to work (single, 1, init=/bin/sh, init=/bin/csh, etc) in the process of finding a line that works.

It should finally be working, but now whenever I reboot. The system only PARTIALLY reboots. All of the services that normally come up... don't, and I'm presented with a login that says:

    (none) login:

If I type a correct user/pass pair, the screen goes blank and resets with a new (none) login: prompt. If I type the wrong user/pass pair, it says "Login incorrect"

What mode am I booting in to?
