Hi ,
Balaji..
Hoping this answer may be answer to some part of ur quesiton...
When PC starts ... It perform Power On Self Test (POST) , to ensure RAM processor HDD etc, are working fine.
Then it checks
BIOS to locate bootable media.
If HDD ......reads the first sector information..
called as MBR.. which contains GRUB..
GRUB offers boot menu.. on selecting OS ,,, specific OS loaders are called,, which in turn loads the OS.

Welcome to the forums, Balaji!
You might be driving some users away from replying with all the exaggerated text formatting. You can check this post for the reason why.
Best of luck with your interview.

The Power-On-Self-Test is the same on all computers and has nothing to do with the operating system. If you just google "power on self test" , I'm sure you will find many pages with detailed explanations of how it works. The POST is run by chips on the motherboard and the master boot record is on your hard drive. In linux also POST will start first? or MBR will start first?
