    kernel panic not syncing vfs unable to mount root fs on unknown-block

    Hi everyone,



    I am trying to install RHEL4 on wmware6.5 but at the beginning of installation it gives that error
    " isofiles_fill_super: bread failed, dev=md1, iso_blknum=16, block=32"
    "kernel panic not syncing vfs unable to mount root fs on unknown-block".

    I use windows 7 and there is no problem with ram and harddisk .

    Are you sure vmware 6.5 is compatible with Windows 7?
    Sometimes, real fast is almost as good as real time.

    I have installed 32-bit RHEL5 on the same system before but now I need 64-bit RHEL4 or RHEL5.I cant understand why it gives error altough machine 64-bit and RHEL is 64-bit and why it doesn't give error while machine 64-bit RHEL 32-bit

    Yes, but is your Windows 7 also 64bit?

    yes I use 64bit vWindows 7

    So, have you tried installing the 64bit version of RHEL 5 in the VM? I know you said you are having trouble with RHEL 4. Also, don't install it in a VM with the xen options.
