    date/time servers

The Date & Time dialog under System Settings returns "unable to contact time server" when trying to set the date and time automatically. All of the time servers in the drop list result in the same message. I've check the boot.log and it reports ntp started OK and the services manager shows it to be enabled and running. I see nothing in the firewall rules that references ntp either positively or negatively... at least that I know of.

I've found some references to ntp and version issues in F11, but those seem tilted toward an F10-F11 upgrade and this box was a fresh install.

Does anyone have an idea on how I might troubleshoot this issue?

    Thanks.

    Regards,
    -Joe

Check your firewall settings. It may be blocking ntp protocol requests (port 123 normally).

    Thanks for the lead.

In the Firewall Configuration dialog, there is no entry for any service running on port 123. Being kind of new to this, I take it that means requests on port 123 do not make it through, right? If so, I would then guess I need to make an entry in a config file someplace or is that accomplished through the gui by adding it in the "Other Ports" section?

Since I run a hardware firewall on my network, I'm not sure, but it sounds like a reasonable assumption to try.

No dice. I added port 123 for both udp and tcp... even rebooted. There have been no changes to the firewall running on the router and this used to work in FC10.

Are there any specific logs I should be checking for clues?
