    boot error after building new kernel

    Hi,

    I am using Centos 5 with an old kernel.
    I want to build the latest version for atheros 5K wireless drivers. So i downloaded, and compiled with the ".config" which is already in /boot , and made it ready to run.

    However, whenever i try to boot with new kernel, after choosing it from the grub menu, i got the following error. I tried many many .config files but the result was the same.

    Here is the screen capture of the error;

    Could you pls advice me what to do?
    I'm trying this process for a week without any success...

    Hello and Welcome.
    You can't use just any .config file. It must match your system specs or it usually won't load. I would try compiling the kernel again but this time, try creating your own .config file manually by selecting which drivers/modules you need in the make menuconfig options.

    Hi Mike,

    Thanks for the answer.
    I tried to work on "make menuconfig", used the .config of already installed kernel, I even tried to create my own .config.

    But unfortunately it gives same error each time i try

    Do you still have the stock kernel installed or have you removed that?

    I would try installing the source code for the current running kernel and see if that gives you the same error.
