Monitor doesn't power down after some idle time at the login screen in RHEL 5.2 64

    Hi,

I have a DELL optiplex 760 machine with ATI Technologies Inc Mobility Radeon HD 3470 video controller. I have installed RHEL 5.2 64 bit OS in this. Kernel version is 2.6.18-164.6.1.el5. When I first installed this, even the screen saver was not working. Then I did an update of xorg packages using yum and later the screen saver started working fine. However,I need my monitor to power down after sometime at the login screen, which is not happening as of now. Is there any way to fix this, may be by modifying any config file or by installing any of the packages?

    Thanks,
    Sumanth

I have experienced this from time to time on my system as well. It seems to be dependent on some applications that won't let the monitors power down. I haven't been able to determine exactly which ones they are as yet...
