    Installing Nvidia drivers

I have the same problem with unzipping the driver. I run off of Fedora 12, and in the middle of unzipping, it just gives me an error message:

"ERROR: You appear to be running an X server; please exit X before
    installing."

I have a nVidia GeForce 8600M GT, the file is named "NVIDIA-Linux-x86-190.42-pkg1.run".
    the directory is "/home/c0rsana/Downloads/NVIDIA-Linux-x86-190.42-pkg1.run"

    Any suggestions?

Check this thread and be sure you are in the correct directory....you must exit the X server and this link will explain how to do that.
