[SOLVED] mount.cifs displays ???? for file names while Dolphin shows as is
Running Fedora12.
While browsing WinXP shares in Doplhin the file names are displayed as they are, but when the same volume is mounted the names change into all ????.
Tried -o iocharset=utf8, but getting this error:
as I can see my locale is on the list from locale -a.Code:mount error(79): Can not access a needed shared library Refer to the mount.cifs(8) manual page (e.g. man mount.cifs)
What am I doing wrong?

As per the error message, there is a problem with a shared library that mount.cifs requires to operate properly. You might need to reinstall mount.cifs to correct this. Since the error doesn't specify which library is having a problem I cannot be more specific than this.

This illustrates general problem with software development, that is bogging my mind since mid-80s when I started using computers: why is it so difficult for developers to be elaborate in diagnostic messages they put in?
I am also at a loss how I can reinstall mount. If I am not mistaken, it is part of base Fedora and comes with operating system. Correct me if I am wrong.

mount isn't the problem. It indirectly calls mount.cifs which is the thing you need to reinstall. CIFS stands for Common Internet File System, which is the successor for netbios/windows network sharing (samba on Linux). So, cifs is the samba client, and smbd is the samba server.

Ok, I tried un/re-installing samba-client, still same problem.
