    Sound not working

    Hi folks,

    Fedora 12 32-bit
    Mobo - Asus M4A78T-E (on-board sound card)
    Gnome desktop

    No sound after login. No sound on playing Youtube

    This is a completely new PC, just finishing installation.

    $ cat /proc/asound/cards
    Code:
     0 [SB             ]: HDA-Intel - HDA ATI SB
                          HDA ATI SB at 0xfbbf4000 irq 16
     1 [HDMI           ]: HDA-Intel - HDA ATI HDMI
                          HDA ATI HDMI at 0xfbdfc000 irq 19

    $ lsmod | grep snd
    Code:
    snd_hda_codec_atihdmi     3176  1
    snd_hda_codec_via      24536  1
    snd_hda_intel          24204  5
    snd_hda_codec          59436  3 snd_hda_codec_atihdmi,snd_hda_codec_via,snd_hda_intel
    snd_hwdep               6732  1 snd_hda_codec
    snd_pcm                63236  3 snd_hda_intel,snd_hda_codec
    snd_timer              17760  1 snd_pcm
    snd                    50292  14 snd_hda_intel,snd_hda_codec,snd_hwdep,snd_pcm,snd_timer
    soundcore               5484  1 snd
    snd_page_alloc          7784  2 snd_hda_intel,snd_pcm

    $ alsamixer
    displaying only one channel - master, sound level can't be adjusted, 100<>100

    System -> Sound ->
    Sound Preferences
    Output
    [check] Internal Audio Stereo

    Please advise how to fix the problem. TIA

    See in the BIOS

    In the BIOS, you should go to advanced tab, onboard devices, and select the audio device : you should not use HD but AC97 if your speakers are plugged into the standard jack.

    At least it worked for me for exactly the same problem.

    Hi khivapia,

    Thanks for your advice.

    I did it as advised. Still have no luck.

    Sound Preference

    Hardware
    Code:
    Internal Audio 1 Output / 1 Input
    Profile: Output Analog Stereo + Input Analog Stereo

    RS780 Azalia controller (grey out)
    Disabled
    Off
    Profile: off

    Also tried
    RS780 Azalia controller
    1 Output
    Output Digital Stereo (HDMI)
    Profile: Output Digital Stereo (HDMI)
    (same result without sound)
    Output
    Code:
    [check] Internal Audio
    Stereo

    Insert Music CD on CDRom Tray starting
    Rhythmbox Music Player 0.12.3

    But I can't play the CD.
    -> Music
    Code:
    Artist
    All 0 artists (0)	All 0 albums (0)
    -> Radio
    select -> Absolute Radio (Broadband) Pop
    It starts but without sound.
