    Question Clustering

I'm setting up 8 Dell P4 PC's that my school sold to me for $50 each with Fedora for the fun of it. I'd like to cluster thees systems in sets of 2 (one set for each room of my house).
My question is in three parts:
First: What packages do I need?
Second: I only have 1 open IDE, 1 open PCI, 1 Ethernet connection and no high speed connections on each Dell. So how do I set this up?
Third: Will I have enough bandwidth to optimally share processing and ram?

I accept any help and advice.

Are you trying to setup something like HA (for example,if one machine goes down you can access files from others) ? Could you please explain more about your goals?

The goal is to have 2 systems ware one is the host and the second is cabled to it to share processing over a cluster event such as that you would use for a high powered game system or a server. This is not to share hard drives or Internet. Pleas note that I will not cluster all 8 systems together but essentially have 4 individual clustered systems.

    Thanks for your quick reply.

you can connect each machine via a crossover cable

you need to be aware though, that the application running must be cluster capable in order to benefit from machines that are clustered

I think you'd find it hard to connect 2 computers through IDE or PCI.

connect 2 linux machines crossover cable - Google Search

    Question

Actually I don't think it will be that hard, but the question is how much bandwidth will I need for optimal performance and what connections will provide this bandwidth?

What I am trying to say is, you CAN'T connect machines through IDE or PCI. You only have a few choices and the fastest one is ethernet.

Fine then I guess its up to how many I should use and what software is needed. Should I use a PCI multi Ethernet connector like my Intel 3 port?
    Any thoughts?
