Trash bin shows full, can't empty...

I am running Red Hat Enterprise and I've encountered a strange problem. The trash bin on my desktop appears full, full of what looks like the contents of the file system. All of the same folders etc. I cannot empty the trash because I don't have write permissions for this stuff, which makes me wonder how it got there in the first place. The .Trash folder in my home directory is empty, no hidden files or anything. I don't have root access either.

    Hi and Welcome !

    Post the output of this
    Code:
    ls .local/share/Trash
Which Desktop Environment are you using?
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

That directory does not exist, the only thing in my .local/share directory is another directory called applications. I am running GNOME.

    Welcome to the forums!

All my recent Gnome setups have a trash folder in .local/share/Trash as indicated above by Devils Casper. Could it be your system is corrupted, or it didn't install properly?

As a side note, even my KDE4 box stores the trash there.
