i officially give up.
anyone in the northern NJ or NYC area, want to give me a hand?!
I can't install linux, Debian, RedHat 7, Fedora 11, Fedora 12. I have tried and tried again and I can't get anything to install.
Looks like I get errors on creating partitions.

We are here for you. If you are willing to work at it, then we might be able to help you right here for free. Can you tell us a little bit about your failed installs? Can you tell us about the machine, is it an older machine? Does it have Windows already installed and do you want to keep Windows if so. Do you know what kind of Motherboard/CPU and graphics card you have?
If you can boot up any LiveCD, then chances are that you can also install Linux to the hard drive. Will the machine boot a LiveCD?I do not respond to private messages asking for Linux help, Please keep it on the forums only.

Agree with Mike. We are here to help _for _free_ if you are ready to help yourself and us. Ofcourse, it is helps a lot if any body can get it installed for you the first time.
It may also help to go with new user friendly distros like linux mint.

The only time that I ever had installation troubles was when I tried installing a 64-bit version of Linux. If you are trying to install a 64-bit version, try a regular 32-bit version instead.

It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

Thank you all!
I have an update.
Over the weekend, I was able to install Debian onto and older Dell Desktop. This system wouldn't take an install of F11 or F12.
The other system, a newer system, wouldn't accept any install: Debian, F11, F12, Redhat 7.
All these install reasons, I am going to say were hardware related. Once the install started working, I was able to get though it without a problem! As a matter of fact, I install debian on the Dell then moved the HDD to the other computer. It would freeze on bootup. So I had to move the HDD back to the Dell. Which is OK.... I am good at this point!
So I have a Debian system up and running. I have a few questions.
1. Is there a good beginner's book to Debian?
2. The computer has a wireless card, how do I set that up?
3. How to I log in as root? I would like to create another user - "guest".
Thanks again for your help!!!!
- 12-21-2009 #7Start from here : Debian wiki.1. Is there a good beginner's book to Debian?
Start a thread in Wireless Internet Forum. Read instructions from here and post output of commands suggested in that thread.2. The computer has a wireless card, how do I set that up?You can gain root privileges in shell through su - command. Execute adduser or useradd command ( check manual, man adduser ) to create a new user.3. How to I log in as root? I would like to create another user - "guest".It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.
