Well, not sure about that you really want to know what it is... Let's say it's a graphical user interface backend, something that allows you to view windows, dialogs, lines, curves...
And I got X Window(s) by installing the Gnome or KDE graphical user environment

If it's not out of the question to do so, you might want to consider installing a later version of Fedora because version 9 is no longer supported.

Talking about suggestions, I run Fedora 10 for the past 10 months and I am quite satisfied with stability and features. You might want to give it a try. Again, just a suggestion
