Installing Fedora 12 from iso file without CD/DVD or USB?
Hey,
I have been using Ubuntu for some time now and am feeling up for a bit of a change but don't want to change completely. I thought of trying openSUSE or Mandriva out before but they didn't feel right and I have heard so much about Fedora I was thinking about trying that but since I don't have any discs and nor can I boot from USB, I started thinking about other ways of installing it to my laptop.
Is there any way I could mount it and add it to the grub/menu.lst so that the iso is loadable when I load into the Grub menu and I can continue its installation from there or, I have heard about a program called UNetbootin which can apparently do the job for, including downloading the .iso.
Thanks.
- 12-24-2009 #2UNetbootin is a fine tool to install Linux distro directly from .iso file instead of burning it to CD/DVD.I have heard about a program called UNetbootin which can apparently do the job for, including downloading the .iso.
Go for it. You won't have any problem. It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

I use Unetbootin all the time to make liveUSB thumb drives that I can test out various machines for compatibility with different Linux distributions. Works great! There are Linux and Windows versions of Unetbootin as well. Here is where you can get it: UNetbootin, Universal Netboot Installer | Get UNetbootin, Universal Netboot Installer at SourceForge.net
Sometimes, real fast is almost as good as real time.

Keep in mind, you can probably just install it directly from your system repos as well. It's available in Gentoo repos......and Ubuntu supposedly has unmatched repos...I'd suggest that you give it shot.
