    lost desktop

I went into applications/preferences, and changed the desktop to gnome default screen, and it showed a file box, and when i turned it off and on, it didi exactly as yours did ?

Only ever used windows operating systems, and now i have a blank screen, in a nice brown colour, and the only action i can do is left click, and change desktop background etc !!!!

Help, only had it yesterday (bought it 2nd hand)
    thanks anyone who can help

Are you using Ubuntu? Ubuntu defaults to gnome desktop. What were you "truning off and on" and how did you do whatever you did? What are you trying to do?

Wasn't paying attention and I guess you are using Fedora since you posted it here. I'm still not sure what you did or were trying to do.

sorry i have never used linux before i am quite alright with windows, but linex is a mystery to me.
I think what i did was trying to change the desktop to what said default gnome screen in applications/preferences on ubuntu/gnome 2.26.1/. I did tick a box before that but put it on again, what said gnome keylock ? sorry to be vague, but i am a real novice with this
    thanks for your reply

    I'm assuming a reboot didn't help?

If you're using Ubuntu, try selecting a different desktop manager at the log-in screen.

Maybe an *buntu expert would help you better... I suggest to move this thread to the Ubuntu Help forum. If you cannot do that, ask a moderator if they can help you.
