Kernel upgrade 2.4.20-8 upgrade to 2.6.32.3 help
Hello all!
So I need a little help with an upgrade issue.
I'm running Redhat 9 on my system but now need to upgrade to a 2.6 kernel in order to support my wireless LAN card. I've downloaded the new kernel from kernel.org, ran the make sequence to build the new kernel but it craps out on me leaving me with a message...
I have a feeling that I'm making this upgrade much more complicated than it really should be.No rules to make target '|', needed by 'firmware/keyspan/usa19qi.fw'. Stop
[firmware] Error 2
[sub-make] Error 2
Has anyone successfully upgraded their kernel that can provide some tips to make this upgrade simple?

This is just my own opinion, so take it with a grain of salt, but now might be a very good time to consider upgrading to a later release of Red Hat or some other distribution since version 9 is no longer supported, and considering that an upgrade from the 2.4 kernel to the latest 2.6 kernel is a pretty big leap with lots of changes to the kernel. Of course, I do understand that a full system upgrade might be out of the question for one reason or another.

Which is the first release after Shrike to use the 2.6 kernel? I don't want to move up Fedora 12 yet...I want to start with the first release to use that kernel and move up to the most recent release. It's an older computer and I just don't want to move to the most recent release and give up performance. It's going to simply be a web server or a database server so just a functioning system with the 2.6 kernel is needed.
