    Startx Startup

I just did a base install of Cent OS based on red hat to use as a desktop pc. I installed x server and then installed firefox. But every time i type in startx in the terminal, firefox starts up with it. How can i disable the automatic start up of firefox when using startx? Im not running any desktop environment yet.

    Thanks

If you quit firefox, then logout before you reboot/restart x, does it still startup with firefox? Also, which GUI are you running, kde or gnome? Both have autostart capabilities. If kde, look in the directory ~/.kde/Autostart and look at the contents of ~/.kderc

I am not running any "GUI" yet. And if i logout from X and then restart X, yes, firefox still opens up.

So, are you running kde or gnome?

No, there is no "Environment" Yet. I like minimal. Just Xserver itself. Startx Also brings up firefox and that's what i can't figure out how to disable.

Ok. Look at /etc/X11/xinit/Xclients. It is run when you startx. At the end of the file you will note that if it cannot start one of the major window managers such as KDE or Gnome, then it will start X with what it can of the following: xclock, xterm, firefox, and TWM (Tom's Window Manager). Voila - you are getting X w/ Firefox.
