Hi and Welcome !
There are a lot of Media Players available but if you are going to install any package manually, you will face dependency problems.
Do you have license of RHEL5? You can use default package manager up2date or yum to install packages.
Media Players : vlc, mplayer, juk, xmms and list goes on...
You can find RPM of these players here.It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

You have to try hit and trial method. Download rpm of VLC Player and install it using rpm -i command. If it throws any error, note down error and post here.
I would suggest you to install latest version CentOS. Its RHEL Clone. Its free to download and install.Code:su - rpm -i <path_of_VLC_rpm>
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.
