    Boot menu information required.

    Hi All,
I joined this forum today and I'm a fresher in Linux.

I have Fedora core 1 installed along with Windows XP in my desktop.
After starting the desktop the boot menu shows three items as follows:

    FEDORA CORE(2.4.22-1.2115.nptlsmp)
    FEDORA CORE-Up(2.4.22-1.2115.nptl)
    DOS

Please tell me the difference between FEDORA CORE(2.4.22-1.2115.nptlsmp) and
    FEDORA CORE-Up(2.4.22-1.2115.nptl).

Also tell me which one should I use normally.

Thanking all of you in advance.

    Banibrato.

    Welcome to the forums!

Unless there is some reason that you absolutely must use Fedora Core 1, I would highly recommend that you install a later release of Fedora because Fedora 12 is out now and it will offer far better hardware support and features. In addition, all support for the Fedora Core 1 release stopped many years ago.

2.4.22-1.2115.nptlsmp is for multiprocessor system and if you don't have multiple processor, there is no need to boot it.

I would suggest you to consider ozar's suggestion. Fedora Core 1 is an obsolete distro and support for latest hardware is minimal. You won't receive any security or regular updates. Install latest version, Fedora 12.

Could you post your machine's specs here?
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

Thank you for the help. The following are my machine's specs:

    Motherboard:Intel D865GSA
    Processor: P4 2.66GHz Dual Core
    RAM:512 MB DDR
    Hard Disk:Seagate 160 GB SATA.

But I could allocate only 6GB to linux as the rest is occupied by Windows.

Should I still go for Fedora 12? Can I download it using torrents?

I also have Red Hat ES3 with me.

Yes, you should be able to run Fedora 12 on that computer.

You can shrink the Windows partition to make more room for Fedora if needed, as 6GB might be cutting it too close.

Yes, you should be able to find plenty of Fedora 12 torrents available for download.
