boot issue due to daemon
Hi All,
I am having a very peculiar problem.
While boot up, when the kernel starts Mdns(multicast dns service in debug mode), the service is starting and not allowing the kernel to boot further.
This may be resolved by using a live CD, but i do not have access to a CD on this box.
I there any other way to stop this service from starting at boot time.

Can the system boot from a USB drive? If so, you can boot a live USB drive and fix this by editing the init files on the system. Alternatively (better for first try) is to boot into single-user mode (run level 1), which will probably keep these services from running. Try that (single-user mode) first, and edit the system init files so that the service in question doesn't start when boot normally.

Thanks for the help Rubberman.
I fixed this issue earlier by booting in the single user mode.

Glad to hear you fixed it. I would have responded last week but I was at a family gathering/wedding that was up in the mountains between California and Nevada. The only internet connection was a wifi access point at the local library. One had to sit in the car in 0F weather to use it unless the library or county office next door was open, which wasn't the case on the weekend.
