Can't Load Wireless USB NIC

Hi All - First Timer

This is an EDimax Wireless USB NIC - ew7718un - latested update downloaded and compiled results in 'rt2870sta.ko'.

From console during bootup error message = 'ra0' does not seem to be present delaying..."

a) Added into /lib/modules/2.6.18-53.15/kernel/drivers/net/rt2870sta.ko

b) I don't think the sub directory makes a difference as long as its under /lib/modules/2.6.18-53.15/kernel/drivers - (Y/N?) There is also a net, and a usb/net

c) I have added:

alias ral rt2870sta.ko
into /etc/modules.conf

d) I'm not surviving a reboot. When I insmod from the command line the rt2870sta.ko module loads and can be seen with lsmod.

e) Driver does not work with the .o version. Only works with the .ko version.

f) I am using DHCP which broadcasts for an IP ok but has yet to acquire a lease or Ip. Is this related?
