Fedora 12 halted on booting with an error.

    Hi all,

I have Fedora12 with dual boot WinXP on my laptop.
Everything was working fine but suddenly one day I booted up my system and selected Fedora from boot menu , an error screen came -

"[...]ERROR: tried to remove a fb that we didn't own
    Boot has failed, sleeping forever"

I don't know why It's happening ? The last thing I did on Fedora was to install some packages to start Wi fi and It was working fine from last 2 months, then why suddenly this bug ???

I googled about it but most of the cases are of Live CDs or USBs but in my case I had a whole different space assigned in my hdd for Fedora and everything was supercool.

Please guide me what to do now...Does it mean I have to do a fresh install of fedora12 again ?

    Thanks in advance.

I found a couple of bug reports that appear to suffer the same trouble.

    https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=539709
    https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=530002

Try booting into runlevel 3. If that works, it seems like some people found the problem fixed after an update so you can try
    Code:
    yum update
From editing the grub line, some people found removing rhgb if you have it, is a workaround.

If neither of those two things work, post the entire output of
    Code:
    dmesg
You can try get into your desktop environment to help posting that with
    Code:
    init 5

    Reed9,

    Appreciate your response.
Pardon my ignorance but how am I supposed to boot into run level 3 from the grub menu?
By pressing c gets me to command line but not accepting any command.
Do I need to change any kernel argument from there as I've read in some links that removing rhgb might help , did that but no success - "error - no root device found...."
    Enlighten me here .

    Hi,

    Done as per my knowledge.
Press e then add 3 in the end of the kernel line after quiet...but it's not helping.
The error message gets changed to "no root device found..."
Not even run level 1 is running.
    What to do now ?

    Hi and Welcome !

It looks like you have remove device name in kernel line.
Just delete rhgb and quiet keywords from kernel line and type 3. Check if System boots up fine.

    Highlight Fedora title -- e -- select kernel line -- e -- type 3 -- hit Enter key -- b
    Sample kernel line :
    Code:
    kernel /vmlinuz-xxxx ro root=xxxxx 3
Which Graphics Card do you have?
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

    Hi Casper,

The graphic card is Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD i.e. inbuilt.
Removing only rhgb and putting 3 didn't work..lemme try the way you suggested.
I will update here after some time as I'm in office...what in case if this also doesn't work? Will I need to do a fresh install again ?

    Thanks a ton for bothering.
