    Welcome to the forums!

Red Hat Enterprise Linux is not available as a free download, other than a trial version. You can try CentOS if you want the same thing but without the official Red Hat logos/branding and paid support.

If one is trying to track down a subtle bug that might be related to OS dependencies, I can understand the need to install an older version of an OS in a testbed environment. Don't know if that's what they are trying to do, otherwise I'd agree with you.

In any case, ramnadh might be able to find an ftp server somewhere with older RHEL distributions to download, but as for this specific one? Don't know. Anyway, it might be easier to use Clonezilla to clone an existing installation to load on a new system or virtual machine.

this is why i asked if there was a reason, but either way running 4.2 instead of 4.9 seems foolish unless you have a very specific reason
