Upgrading to Windows Vista, without destabilising Fedora 9.0

    Friends,

I am having a PC with a dual-boot facility (Windows 2000 and Fedora Linux 9). I am planning to shift from Windows 2000 to Windows Vista. Can I install Windows Vista without corrupting/crashing Fedora Linux? A friend of mine did say that if I install Windows Vista now, it might modify the boot sector etc., so that I will not get an option to choose between Windows or Linux.

Both Windows and Fedora has been now running without any problem for nearly a year, so I really do not wish to break any thing. Any suggestions to upgrade into Windows Vista?

Yes, any time you install Windows after Linux, it will always overwrite the MBR (bootloader) leaving you to boot straight into Windows with no option for booting into Linux. There are a number of different ways for restoring GRUB, however. One easy option is to use the SuperGRUB liveCD to restore the Linux bootloader.

Thank you Ozar for the quick reply . Can you provide a bit more information on the SuperGrub? Mean while I would also search for information.

Sure... the SuperGRUB website can be found here:

Lots of other info on SuperGRUB can be found with a quick Google search:
