Hello, could someone reccomend a good FREE av for linux? i downloaded avast, but it's now asking me for a key :S

Search in your package manager for antivirus. Fedora should have clamav, and probably f-prot in the repositories.

But That's Just My Opinion. I Could Be Wrong.

I don't think you'll need any. But I think AVG has a free antivirus for Linux.

I would recommend calmav and its available in Fedora Repositories.
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

I am sure devil's casper meant clamav
To install it:
yum install clamav
yum install clamad
To run it, you could do (to scan the /var directory):
clamscan -r -i /var > clamscan.txt
or
clamscan -r /var > clamscan.txtThanks.
