    gcc upgrade on RHEL 3

    Dear All,

My machine is running with RHEL 3 and the kernel version that I am using is 2.4.21-37.EL. I would like to upgrade present gcc 3.2.59 to gcc-3.4.6-8. I tried but encountered with errors like dependencies and many more. Can anybody please help me to know how to upgrade gcc.

    Thanks in advance!

Rather than upgrading, just install the new version. You can have multiple versions of the gcc compiler suite on your system at any time.

I tried to install gcc-3.4.6-8.i386.rpm but it says need to install binutils-2.15.92.0.2-18.i386.rpm and
cpp-3.4.6-8.i386.rpm. I could install binutils but not cpp. It is all sort of dependency error. Could you please point me how to install the new version.

Please post the yum output for the dependencies.

assuming this is actual RHEL, there will be no yum before RHEL5.

You are so correct! Wasn't paying attention to the mention of RHEL 3... doh! Still need to see the error output of the rpm command.
