No Link Present

Hello,

I wish someone would help find the cause why my rhel 5 installation cannot connect to the internet.
I have a cable connected to the system but during booting, I get a report that

Loading eth0 information.....no link present....check cable.

I also get the same error if I want to manually activate the network from the network configuration tool on the desktop.

I am very sure the cable and network is working as I use the same connection when I dual boot to my windows partition.

What must be wrong?
