Question [SOLVED] 1394 dv camera stopped working after F12 Upgrade

    Hello,

I had my Canon DV camcorder working well with Kino for capture in Fedora 11. I upgraded to F12 recently and tried to capture some video tonight. It does not seem to even recognize my camera.

My card: 02:08.0 FireWire (IEEE 1394): Agere Systems FW322/323 (rev 04)

    My kernel: 2.6.31.12-174.2.22.fc12.i686.PAE

I read somewhere about installing ieee1394 kernel modules from ATRPMs and rebuilding the kernel but I'm not really sure how to accomplish this.

    Thanks in advance,

    Bill

Solved my own issue after hours of Googling. It was a permissions issue on the firewire device. The camera was placed at /dev/fw1. It appears that this device can only be used by root or the "video" group. Kino recognized the camera without issue if I ran Kino as root. I then added myself to the video group and rebooted.

Everything works well now just running Kino without root. No need for compiling my own kernel after all.
