Welcome to the forums!
Check this HowTo, as it covers a number of different ways to reset the root password in Linux:

If one method doesn't work, try one of the others.oz

It not possible to retrieve root password but you can reset it in Single User Mode.
Boot up RedHat/Fedora in Single User Mode and execute passwd command. Assign new root password. It won't ask for existing password. Reboot machine and use new password for root.
Boot up in Single User Mode :
Highlight Fedora/RedHat title in GRUB Menu and press 'e'. Select 'kernel' line and press 'e' again. Add <space> 1 at the end of line and hit 'Enter' key. Press 'b' and Linux will boot up in Single User mode.
Highlight Fedora/RedHat title -- e -- select kernel line -- e -- type 1 -- hit Enter key -- bIt is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

lost pass phrase, need to access data
hi friends,
Lost passphrase of system. Not able to access the application or database. Is there any possibility to access the database of that system through other system which is connected in LAN.
Thanks in advance

The entire purpose of passwords is to keep people / systems out who don't know the magic phrase. Yes, in many situations there are work-arounds or back-doors, but in effect unless you know what they are, you are SOL. So, I have to ask, how did you lose such a critical resource?
Sometimes, real fast is almost as good as real time.

Walk over to the system, reboot it into single user mode and you should be fine. If you don't have the passphrase or the password then there's nothing you can do remotely.
Cheers
