Win 7 remote desktop to Fedora?

Is there anyway I can remote in to a fedora machine via a Win 7, Vista or Server 2008 machine and have the gui desktop ?

I can vnc to it but it's command line only

If possible, I'd like to use the defacto std tool called remote desktop installed with the win os.

If not any are there any open source-al free tools I could install on win to get this functionality?

    thanks

rdp is the standard for windows only.
    unix uses vnc.

What do you mean with commandline only?
If you have a vnc connection, you see the graphical desktop.

I also have good results with NX (nomachine)
NoMachine NX - Desktop Virtualization and Remote Access Management Software
In ubuntu, the server part is in an repository, so installation is trivial.
For fedora, I can imagine the same, but I am not sure.

The windows client is on NoMachine NX - Desktop Virtualization and Remote Access Management Software

Like I said, I tried some flavor of vnc on win and all I got was a command line, no gui. but for what I needed to do it was ok.

Last night I tried tiger vnc for win and it connected to a already logged in account.
It barly worked, maybe for all of 5 minutes, then hung. It was also quite slow and sluggish, even though the machines are on a gig ethernet connection.

What I want is a utility I can use on windows to connect to and log in as a new account and have a working gui desktop. Working is the operative word here.

Could it be, that this was ssh -not vnc- by any chance?

vnc *will* give you a graphical interface.
And yes, it can connect to an already existing session.

    About slow and sluggish.
vnc has been around for quite a while. It is definitely useable.
If the connection breaks up or is slow, then there is a reason for that.
It is gigabit ethernet all the way? What is the utilizisation on the network, what it is latency? Is the linux server under high load? etc

And for the utility you can use:
    I mentioned two
nx will give you a fresh session everytime you log in, btw

It's possible I was using ssh or putty but can't say for certain it was quite a while ago since I tried it.

I am using 1 gb ethernet on all machines and they are separated by only a few feet of wire.

Why tiger vnc was so flaky I do not know. network utilization is quite low.
Both machines load was quite low at the time.

I gave NX a try but couldn't connect, I need to rtfm because it complained that linux box or service wasn't available. I suspect I need to install/configure on all machines I want to connect with and to.

in any event, seconds later win 7 blue screened... so much for new and improved...

I needed coffee anyway... I'll try again later, got lawn work to attend to.
Being in Seattle and this time of year, gotta make hay while the sun is out...

well, here in munich winter is back and people crash their cars by the dozens, if not hundreds

I am quite sure, nxclient is not responsible for blue screens.
From office and personal use I can not report any error like that.

Right now, you have two programs crashing: tiger vnc and nxclient.
Do you have crashes and bad network performance with other programs, too?
Maybe check the Event Log and the bluescreen message of that windows box and especially the network interface for errors.

In ubuntu, nxserver setup is nothing more than installing the package and starting the sshd.
Fedora should be similar, I guess.

nx works over ssh: encryption included, and no need for another open port in the firewall.

    One other thing:
Working non-graphic, ie ssh only, is not an option for you?

VNC is just pathetic really. I will never use it again, it pales in comparison to windows RDP (one of the things they have that works REALLY well). But, I have found that NX is nearly as good as RDP, I would recommend using this, it is more secure since it works over SSH connection.

A Google for "linux rdp server" will also return xrdp.
