    Installation problem

    Hello,

Thanks for posting. Occasionally the software update fails for me, so your yum update tip really came in handy.

I've been struggling with a Fedora 12 install on a new Gigabyte 770ta-ud3. My first install was successful, but I got the same error as you with the updates. Instead I installed a few other packages including the Nvidia drivers. After a reboot things locked up, and I couldn't fix it in rescue mode.

I decided to reinstall, but the system kept hanging during the installation. I went back to my original bios settings but still no luck. It was hanging during during disk formating, so I though it might be SATA, so I hooked up a PATA drive. Still no luck.

Finally it worked, but I don't know why it was locking up. Unfortunately, that PATA is drive is small and old, so I'll probably need to do another install. Any ideas as to the origin of the problem?

    Thanks,
    Chris

    Hi and Welcome !

It looks like problem was coz of Graphics Card only. Installers do not configure Nvidia/ATI Graphics Cards sometimes and one has to use text based installer instead of Graphical.

Thanks for the info. Things seem stable now, and I'll stick with nouveau until I get some more info. Now I have to play with the wireless. I'm thought it was in the current kernel, but it looks like madwifi is still around.

Which Nvidia Graphics Card do you have?
    Execute this in Terminal :
    Code:
    su -
    /sbin/lspci | grep -i vga
    Post output here.

01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation G72 [GeForce 7300 LE] (rev a1)

I borrowed a Nvidia 7300 LE. My GT 220 is in the mail and should show up on Monday. I think the same driver should work for either, but it's probably best to wait to limit the chance of problems.

    Thanks,
    Chris

On another note, I used the lspci command, and I didn't see my wireless card. It's an old PCI card. Shouldn't it show up with the lspci command.

    Thanks,
    Chris

Never mind. Looks like it wasn't seated properly. I put fimly into another PCI slot and everything works.
