    Unhappy MBR not getting installed

    well well, i have a VIAO VGNCS22 machine of a client in my hands and i tried dualbooting RHEL 5.3 in that with windows vista. the installation went successful but the mbr is not installed. tried installing grub from rescue mode but not working....
    is it the problem with the machine or what??
    somebody told me that the MBR is locked....

    any ideas will be thanked.

    It could be, check in the bios, can not say exact wording but look for any thing about virus detection. If you find it, turn it off to install grub to MBR. You can turn it back on latter, it only tries to protect the MBR from virus.

    You could install grub to the linux root partition and use a third party program that is ran in vista to boot linux. check out Download EasyBCD 1.7.2 - NeoSmart Technologies , have never used.

    I am assumeing that Vista still boots.

    the bios has no features. the viao bios is one of the must uninteresting bios i have ever seen. no trace of anything about virus detection in the bios. have to check out your software but i don't think so.
