Automatically re-activate/connect wireless when laptop opens
I've got my Lenovo T60 laptop wireless running without too much trouble, the only problem is when i close my laptop lid and open it again the wireless connection is down and i simply cant click on the network icon in the notification area to re-connect as wlan0 is inactive. If i go to System>admin>network i cant activate the interface either as the 'active' button is greyed out, the only way to get the thing to come alive again (other than a full reboot) is to toggle the wireless switch on my laptop off and then back on.
Not sure this should be required, i've got the interface configured to start automatically but it doesnt seem to care.
Has anyone any ideas?
thanks

Are you using NetworkManager? If you need to find out, right-click on your network icon and select 'about'. If that option isn't there or if it doesn't tell you it is, then use your package manager to install it. It's really good at handling wireless network connections.
If you are already using NetworkManager, then we'll need a bit more information. Do you know what wireless chipset your laptop has? What Linux distribution are you using?Linux user #126863 - see http://linuxcounter.net/

It's a common problem with many distros. If you google around you'll find many posts regarding similar issues. I think a common workaround is to write a quick script that brings down the interface, unloads the wireless module, reloads the module, and puts the interface back up, and that set to run when you resume from suspend.

I'm pretty sure that this is related to the power management functions.
System> Preferences>Power Management
Disable all of that stuff, and see if it helps. If you leave your laptop unused for any length of time, you would be better off to shut it down to save the battery.Paul
