    network connection

Currently my setup is a road runner cable modem connected to a desktop via a ethernet
cable. The networkmanager lists "Broadcom BCM440-BO 100BaseTX" device not managed.
I've turned off the power to both the cable modem and the computer. I then turned on the power
to the cable modem and then the computer. If I try the firefox browser, it can not connect to the internet.

What could you suggest as the possible fix?
    thx.,
    pete

Use the pppd to connect via external modems like yours. For example, in KDE it has a graphical config - called Kppp. You should configure your modem (choose an eth* (your ethernet device) from a list and then assign other options (like a number to dial up).

Should ppp (fc12) used instead of the NetworkManager?
