    Hello and Welcome!

I would be using a Live CD to detect my Linux partition again. Use gparted to delete and prepare the partition for the installation you plan to do.

Or better, as you install your new Linux (Ubuntu) your partitions will be detected again along the way. There you can format, resize etc.

    Hello again!

May I ask if I got it right?

I installed Fedora11 on my hard drive in e: . However i formatted my computer and installed windows XP professional after which i am unable to boot in for linux OS and unable to format the drive as well
You formatted & Installed XP pro? Are you sure you did not overwrite the Linux partition in the process?

Now i want to format that drive to install ubuntu in the same drive. Can anyone tell me how to proceed . How should i format the drive and install ubuntu .
Linux Mint 7 has gparted (partition editor). If you can get your hands (or download and burn) a Live CD, you may be able to install your Ubuntu after partitioning and format.

EDIT: By the way, you might want to start a thread in the proper forums for this so it might get proper attention.

Just a quick note to say that I've moved the thread to a more appropriate forum.

We have to check Partition Structure of your Hard disk first.
Boot up from Ubuntu LiveCD, open Terminal and execute this
    Code:
    sudo fdisk -l
    Post output here.

    * Its small L in fdisk -l.
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

What exactly do you mean by "unable to remove fedora"?
If you boot a windows install CD/DVD, you should be able to partition and format the drive, therefore deleting anything on it.
You must always face the curtain with a bow.

Sometimes, the Windows installation disk doesn't work if GRUB is installed to the MBR. If this is the case on your machine you can go to a terminal in Linux and run the following command to clear the MBR and partition table giving you a fresh start:

    Code:
    dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sda bs=512 count=1
Your Windows disk should work after doing this.
