    Unhappy Toshiba Satellite L300 & Ubuntu 10.04 & Fedora

I have Toshiba Satellite L300 with H2O Bios, and i have dual boot Windows 7 and Ubuntu 10.04. In Windows 7 everything works SUPER !! in Ubuntu 10.04 i have a problem with my FN keys, not all of them, only Fn+F3 works and after i press Fn+F3 i can use other Fn keys like Fn+F6 or Fn+F7 for Dispay brightness they start to work but after i restart my laptop again only Fn+F3 works . I also think that my CPU is sometimes hot . Please tell me, i like to use only Ubuntu or Fedora on my laptop !! Thanks

    Hello and welcome!
Please tell me, i like to use only Ubuntu or Fedora on my laptop
I have experienced once that my laptop encountered some graphics issues with Ubunt 9.04 but worked fine with 9.10. Honestly I was not able to figure it out why. So? I said to myself "must be a bug".

Perhaps you might want to try an earlier version of Ubuntu (9.04 or 9.10) just to check if the problem would still persist. Fedora is also a good distro. You might want to check it out

    Enjoy linux!

    Hi and Welcome !

Execute these commands in Terminal :
    Code:
    free
    df -h
    lspci | grep -i vga
    grep -i driver /etc/X11/xorg.conf
    Post output here.
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

Thank you so much !!!!! ) just for posting some comment here I must tell you that i have this problem from Ubuntu 8.10 ... and i find that this is old from 2005... the problem is that there is some conflict between H20 Bios (Phoenix) and Linux OS (Every Linux OS) :-S Problem with ACPI ... is not graphics issues. There is fixes "Omnibook" that work for this... but when you fix this problems with Fn keys and CPU Fan, your PC will turn on itself for max 15 min :-SSSSS CRAZY !!! and if you like to stop this everytime when you shut down you have to take off your laptop battery :-SSSSS STRANGE !!! i also find that your battery od dispaly is not turning off when your laptop is turned off ..... SO I THINK THAT THIS IS LINUX - PHOENIX (TOSHIBA) PROBLEM ... OR EVERY LINUX DISTRO PROBLEM... NOW I HAVE PROBLEMS WITH FEDORA TOO :-SSSSS

I encourage you to not give up yet, Benyt! Try these two simple things, first:

Get SystemRescueCD and wipe your hard drive completely with zeros (boot the CD, type <dban> and then enter, on next screen type <quick> and enter, let it run)

Clean Install a linux distro like Zenwalk-gnome or a Lite (i.e. LXDE) version of whatever you choose..

Relax & enjoy. Soon you will want to kiss the panes "goodbye!"

I realize I am bumping an old post but I have a solution to the OP's post. Upgrade your BIOS. See my write-up at the ArchLinux Wiki on the Satellite L300.
