To paraphrase Forest Gump, "Smart is as smart does." - the fact that you are here and are asking a reasonable question means that you are already ahead of the "smart" curve... And welcome to Geek Central!

FWIW, most Linux distributions already have Java installed. For example, OpenOffice is a Java application, so if you have StarOffice or OpenOffice on your system, you already have Java installed. The problem may be that you need a different version of Java in order to run those facebook applications. So, if you can post what the actual errors/messages are that you are getting, we will be better able to advise you as to what you should do and/or try.

i do not know what all that means:

i download the file in to my downloads folder
i dont even understand the whole cd/user/java and how to move it to this folder or that

Download the RPM and install it with YUM, the Red Hat / Fedora package manager. That way it will be properly registered in your repository and any dependencies can be installed or updated automatically as necessary.

Open a command line window and execute this command: sudo yum install filename.rpm

Replace "filename.rpm" with the name of the actual RPM file you downloaded.
