    Network Problem

    hello,

    I have Reliance Netconnect Card model no EC 325 and tried to configure in Centos.

    following r the steps -
    1. I Check that card is recognized by the kernel by # cat /proc/bus/usb/devices and it is getting recognized.

    2. modprobe the driver
    # modprobe usbserial vendor=0x12d1 product=0x1001

    3. got something like this with dmesg
    # dmesg

    [ 2315.480414] pl2303 2-6:1.0: pl2303 converter detected
    [ 2315.480608] usb 2-6: pl2303 converter now attached to ttyUSB0
    [ 2315.480620] pl2303 2-6:1.1: pl2303 converter detected
    [ 2315.480691] usb 2-6: pl2303 converter now attached to ttyUSB1

    4. I edited /etc/wvdial.conf file

    5. after giving wvdial cdma command ...... the modem is initialized and it is connected

    but the real problem is when i try to open browser it says firefox couldnt able to open google.com or any site..


    so pls help me to fix this problem ...

    You haven't written anything about your general network setup. PC directly connected to your ISP or other network etc. but I guess that will be OK.

    I think what's missing is to give your network card a proper IP address.

    Do you use DHCP? Do you connect to a router?

    Your card should have a MAC address assigned to it. That MAC address must show up in ifconfig.

    hey thanks for ur response. I think My Home PC is directly connected to ISP. I Have not used DHCP or any router. and have checked MAC address and it is there...
    I have tried all networking tools to fix it but not able to open browser ...
    pls help me with this

    Most ISPs want you to use DHCP. If you are assigned to a static address then your ISP must ahve told you so.
    Even then uou could use DHCP, I guess.

    If you have no network and if you are directly connected to the ISP you have no choices but to obey the ISP's rules.

    In the info below is shown how to set up DHCP for your network.
